Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

A Brief History of The Quitting Time Group
Of Alcoholics Anonymous
Morgan City, La.

Sometime around the mid 1990's while listening to a conversation between Gerald O. and Dennis G., the idea for an early evening meeting came up. (Both men due to health reasons needed an early non-smoking meeting.) However nothing was done to organize or start this meeting until early 1998. During that time there was dissention in a long standing group in the area, so a few members decided to start a new group with Gerald and Dennis' idea. This was the beginning of The Quitting Time group. An organizational meeting was held at the home of Ann G.  Attending were Shari B., Trevor B., with Janice B. on the telephone and a Proxy from Bill Mc.. On Monday March 9, 1998 we held our first A.A. meeting at 5:30 PM. This meeting was and still is a closed non-smoking meeting. Later we added a 5:30 PM meeting on Thursday, then a meeting on Sunday at 8:00 PM a few months later. About a year later we started a Big Book study on Wednesday at 6:00 PM and the Thursday meeting was moved to 8:00 PM. Today we are about 10 members strong and carrying A.A.'s message five times a week. On March 1, 2005 we moved to our new location on Everett St. We made this move to better carry the message to the suffering drunk. Although our meeting schedule dropped to three meeting a week our group roster grew.
